The Gulf Center for Disease Prevention and Control participated in a prestigious international workshop on laboratory leadership, organized by the World Health Organization in Muscat, Sultanate of Oman, during the period from 8 to 11 July 2024. The workshop was attended by a group of experts and specialists in the field of public health from the Gulf Cooperation Council countries and other countries.
The workshop aimed to enhance the capabilities of laboratory leaders in various health sectors, including health, environment and agriculture, and enable them to manage laboratories with high efficiency, and prepare for rapid response to health emergencies, such as epidemics and health crises.
The Gulf Center participated in the workshop with a comprehensive presentation that highlighted its efforts in strengthening laboratory capabilities in the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, through specialized technical working groups in reference laboratories and One Health. The Center also provided an overview of studies and evaluations of field epidemiology programs that it implements in the region.
The two-year long-term training programme aims to build the capacities of laboratory leaders in the areas of leadership, management, emergency preparedness, response and recovery, and aims to enable them to manage laboratories with high efficiency, provide accurate and rapid diagnostic services, and contribute to enhancing community health.
