Members of the "Public Health Emergencies Preparedness Network," which is affiliated with the Gulf Center for Disease Prevention and Control, held a remote discussion session to talk about the International Agreement on Pandemic Response and Prevention. This agreement is currently under negotiation by the World Health Organization and its member states. The main aim of this international agreement is to enhance international cooperation in pandemic response and prevention, and to improve the capabilities of member states in addressing global health phenomena.
The Gulf Center for Disease Prevention and Control, along with participating member states, worked on a unified Gulf technical opinion about the agreement. This opinion will be presented to relevant authorities to obtain the necessary approvals. Achieving an international agreement in this field is considered a significant milestone towards improving pandemic response and ensuring global public health protection.
It's worth mentioning that the center is also in the process of hosting International Health Regulations (IHR) focal points officers from Gulf countries, as well as members of the "Public Health Emergencies Preparedness Network." They conducted intensive technical discussions about all aspects of the draft agreement, exchanging valuable opinions and experiences to arrive at a precise and balanced text that serves the objectives of health response in the region and reflects the views of the council's member countries.
This workshop represents an important step towards achieving effective regional cooperation and coordination in combating epidemics and infectious diseases, thereby enhancing the capabilities of member states to tackle future health challenges.
