The 17th meeting of the Supervisory Board members of the Gulf Center for Disease Prevention and Control was held at the headquarters of the Gulf Health Council in Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The meeting was attended by representatives from the member states to discuss the latest developments in the Center's activities and its future plans.
The meeting was inaugurated by H.E. Dr. Al-Munther Al-Hasawi, Assistant Undersecretary for Public Health Affairs in the State of Kuwait and current Chair of the meeting, who announced the start of the agenda and emphasized the importance of Gulf cooperation in the areas of disease prevention, control, and regional health security.
The session began with a welcoming address by H.E. Dr. Pasi Penttinen, Chief Executive Officer of the Center, who reviewed the minutes of the 16th meeting and provided a comprehensive update on the Center’s key achievements over the past year, along with key performance indicators for the first quarter of 2025.
The meeting covered several important topics, including the proposed action plan to address road traffic incidents in the Gulf region, updates to data-sharing policies, and proposed changes to permanent communication networks and working groups. Updates were also presented on ongoing collaborations with international disease control centers, including those in China and the European Union.
Additionally, the meeting featured a joint session with the Emergency Response Team (SPaRC), during which the public health emergency response plan and training strategy were reviewed.
This meeting marks a continuation of the Center’s efforts to enhance health integration among the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries and to develop effective responses to shared health challenges across the region.
