In an important step towards strengthening disease prevention and control efforts in the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, the Gulf CDC held its thirteenth meeting of the Supervisory Board on Monday, February 12, 2024, via video conferencing. This meeting affirmed the Center’s commitment to continuing its vital work under the current circumstances, with a focus on discussing the achievements that have been achieved and the support required to implement existing projects and achieve future goals.
Members of the Supervisory Board from member states participated in the meeting. During the meeting, the progress achieved by the Center in 2023 was reviewed by reviewing performance indicators. The report on the current situation and global best practices related to public health information was also reviewed, as well as a review of the report on Gulf capacities and capabilities for Public Health emergency. The efforts made to combat antimicrobial resistance and regional and international cooperation in the field of public health were also reviewed, and the efforts made to host the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to host the ministerial meeting to combat antimicrobial resistance were also reviewed.
During the meeting, the Center's CEO stressed the importance of continued support from member states and international partners to enable the Center to achieve its vision of building a healthy Gulf society. The importance of updating and developing the proposed indicators to measure performance and achieve targeted goals was also stressed, with the aim of enhancing the center’s capabilities in monitoring and responding to health crises more effectively.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the Gulf CDC expressed its appreciation for the efforts made by the Gulf CDC’s work teams and the continued support from member states and partners, stressing its commitment to joint work to improve public health and disease prevention in our region.
