As part of its efforts to strengthen Gulf health security and develop early warning tools, the Gulf Center for Disease Prevention and Control organized a specialized workshop on wastewater surveillance on Monday, September 29, 2025.
The workshop focused on wastewater-based monitoring in GCC countries as an innovative and effective tool to support early warning systems and track the spread of diseases. It aimed to review and discuss the current efforts in this field across member states, exchange successful practices and experiences among experts, and enhance the technical capacities of national staff.
The program included key sessions on sampling mechanisms, laboratory analysis, and the interpretation of environmental data in relation to public health indicators, thereby supporting decision-makers and contributing to evidence-based health policies.
This workshop comes as part of a series of initiatives implemented by the Center to promote health integration among GCC countries and to keep pace with global trends in using environmental technologies as part of surveillance and response systems for infectious diseases.
