The Gulf Center for Disease Prevention and Control (Gulf CDC) convened, via videoconference, the 12th regular meeting of the Surveillance and Monitoring Network on Monday, 20 April, with the participation of representatives from GCC Member States, as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen joint Gulf cooperation and advance the regional health information system.
The meeting commenced with welcoming the network’s new members, highlighting the importance of their role in supporting health surveillance and monitoring efforts across GCC countries. Participants also reviewed the key achievements accomplished during 2025, which contributed to advancing health information systems and enhancing the efficiency of epidemiological surveillance.
Discussions focused on the priority projects planned for 2026, including infectious disease surveillance activities, disease forecasting and modeling initiatives, and the Burden of Disease project. The meeting also addressed the development of health registries, including cancer and road traffic injury registries, in addition to antimicrobial resistance initiatives.
Participants further discussed mechanisms to strengthen integration among health systems and enhance data exchange between Member States, supporting evidence-based decision-making and improving preparedness and response capacities for public health challenges.
The meeting forms part of Gulf CDC’s continuous efforts to strengthen regional coordination and advance health surveillance and monitoring systems, contributing to enhanced health security and improved quality of life across the GCC countries.
