The Gulf Center for Disease Prevention and Control (Gulf CDC) participated in the GHEC SimEx Polaris II exercise, organized by the World Health Organization (WHO) under the HorizonX initiative of the Health Emergencies Programme, on 22–23 April 2026. The exercise aimed to activate and test the Global Health Emergency Corps (GHEC) framework, while enhancing coordination, information sharing, and strategic decision-making during public health emergencies.
The exercise focused on the strategic level, testing coordination mechanisms among partners, supporting resource allocation decision-making processes, and strengthening integration between stakeholders and emergency response plans. These efforts contribute to improving the readiness of health systems to effectively respond to crises.
The second day of the exercise featured the main simulation phase, during which participants discussed a range of different scenarios to evaluate the effectiveness of coordination and response mechanisms, as well as to assess the efficiency of procedures followed in managing public health emergencies at the international level.
Gulf CDC’s participation in this exercise reflects its ongoing commitment to strengthening regional preparedness and supporting collaborative response efforts with international partners. It also contributes to enhancing emergency response capabilities and reinforcing health security across the GCC countries.
